GS1 Ireland is the national member organisation of GS1, whose global standards are used worldwide to uniquely identify, capture and share information about products, locations and assets across supply chains. I helped to design & develop a demo app that was designed to clearly communicate the value of GS1 Digital Link in a way that is accessible to non-technical users.
GS1 Ireland's orginal Digital Link application contains a large amount of detailed, role-specific information, which can be challenging for first-time users to understand. The goal of this project was to simplify that experience, creating a focused demonstration tool that highlights the power of Digital Link without overwhelming users.
Using a single, real-world product example, a Fire Door Assembly, the app is structured around clearly defined user roles inlcuding an Architect, Building Occupant and Service Engineer. Users select an “actor” and are shown only the information relevant to that role, reflecting how a single Digital Link QR code can deliver different content depending on who scans it and when.
The UI is intentionally clean and minimal, with clear hierarchy, scannable content, and plain language. By reducing visual and informational complexity, the app helps users quickly understand the core concept: one universal identifier connecting physical assets to trusted digital information throughout their lifecycle.
The final result is an intuitive, lightweight demo app that effectively showcases GS1 Digital Link for presentations and stakeholder engagement, translating a complex digital standard into a clear and engaging user experience.
